1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Coming In From The Cold II: Greg's Baur #689

In all the excitement over the recent Vintage at Saratoga last Saturday, we almost overlooked a very significant find.

ANOTHER BAUR HAS COME IN FROM THE COLD!

You may recall that on 12/2/2010, Jeroen posted a list of 33 US Baurs:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1566814&highlight=baur+tc1+in+the+US

Scroll down to Baur #689.

I have also had Baur #689 listed here, in the section:  KNOWN BAUR NUMBERS, UNKNOWN BAURS.

Here is the listing for Baur #689 on the International Baur Registry, listing it as a 320/6, which means it had the original carbureted 2.0L M20 engine.

Here is a Craig's list ad that we posted in Baurspotting back in June of 2012:

6/5/2012 Rensselaer NY
1979 BMW 320 BAUR - $6800 (Rensselaer NY)
A super rare 79 BMW 320 Baur in great shape. Car came out of a Beverly Hills collection about 7 years ago. Previous owner did a mechanical update from a 4 cylinder 4 speed to a 6 cylinder 5 speed!. Suspension and exhaust updated as well. ALL brand new parts were used in this process, no expense was spared. Body and uncarriage amazingly clean. 61,000 original miles on the car, lifetime California car. Email me for pictures or to make an appointment to see this car. Won't last long!

Look familiar?  It should.  :)

As you know, we worked hard to get a Baur presence at the Vintage at Saratoga last Saturday.  I am pleased to say that our efforts were rewarded with the largest turnout of Baurs at any car show in the US in recent memory, possibly ever!

Guess what we found at Saratoga?

YES!!!
That is Baur Plate #689!

In the course of our efforts to get as many Baurs as we could to the Saratoga show, we reached out to the seller of the Baur in the Craig's List ad above.  That turns out to be Greg S., who stated his interest in joining the Baur group for the event.  The four pics above (courtesy of THEPOOLEMAN---Thanks, Ed!) were taken at the Vintage at Saratoga show on July 14, 2012.

In the process of reviewing the pics I have received from the event for the previous blog post (showing all the Baurs by Baur number), I decided to check my files to see what other info I might have on Baur #689.

It was then that I had the OMG! moment!  :)  For over a year and a half, we have known that this Baur existed in the US.... but we had NO idea where it was. We have been actively seeking it.... along with many others, but totally blindly.  And here it suddenly is, right in front of us!!

Amazing.

Welcome to Greg S.!  We are so pleased that your Baur has.... "Come In From The Cold"!
Once again, folks..... it is a Small Baur World!
