1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Seller's comments:
I am selling my 1980 BMW 320 Baur (Number 2036) after owning it for almost 12 years its time to let some else enjoy it and look after it. It will be available to purchase end of October as I am going away with it beginning of October.

It is in Henna Red, body work is very good, passed its MOT with no problems.

It has a full genuine BBS body kit with 13 inch Mahl alloy wheels on new tyres, original Sport steering wheel and full leather interior.

the interior is in good condition and has an 80's phone which obviously doesn't work anymore.

This car sounds and looks amazing.

The roof is in good condition I replaced it around 2007.

Cylinder head has been refurbished, new seals, springs, cam.

I am awaiting new coach-line strips.

During my ownership I have only covered almost 3,500 miles.

My car has had a lot of time, care, and money put into it and when possible I have used Genuine BMW parts, I hope the new owner will continue to do so.

Please view this vehicle before committing to purchasing it.

Delivery may be available please contact me for information.

Can someone out there save this one?

BTW, I checked the VIN, and found the following: July 1973 production date. I do not know why it is listed as a '1974', unless perhaps the Baur conversion was completed in 1974, delaying its initial registration.

Thanks for posting, Barry!

1980 BMW e21 323i Factory 6 Cylinder European Baur Coupe: Baur #1181

Thanks to our friend, the continent-trotting Andrew Wilson, for the heads-up on this California TC1 Baur on ebay!   (Andrew has been all over the continent this year, traveling most recently to Monterey, CA for the 100th Anniversary of BMW.   He previously attended the Vintage at the Vineyards in NC, '02 Fest in Arkansas, the Kissel Kar anniversary in Wisconsin, the Pittsburgh Grand Prix Vintage, the Vintage at Saratoga NY, and a variety of smaller local events---- and he's not done yet!  I am exhausted just LISTING that itinerary!  Hands down winner of the Iron Butt Award!  Keep on trucking', Andrew!)

1980 BMW e21 323i Factory 6 Cylinder European Baur Coupe

We did find this Baur #1181 listed in one of the two International Baur Registries, but not yet in the other.  Our friend, Uwe Hinz, is on top of the situation, as usual.  :)

The cover for the rear vinyl window is rarely found on US Baurs these days.  It is necessary in this case, since the seller states that the window is damaged and in need of replacement.

Seller's ebay comments:

NO RESERVE AUCTION

Welcome. You are bidding on a rare 1980 323i Baur. This car comes with a clean California title. On original California title the DMV has made a mistake with one of the numbers in the VIN. The last 4 of the vin is 1115 the title only shows 115. Instead of dealing with the DMV and asked them to correct this issue(add an extra 1) I have decided to sell the car. This car has had the same owner since 1985. I am happy to help arrange out of state or overseas shipping. Please take a look at the pictures below and read the description. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. For additional pictures please click on then photo bucket link.

Exterior: This car still appears to have most of its original Silver paint. The paint is very worn and is in need of attention. The car appears to be very solid structurally with no signs of rust. It appears may have been an accident in then rear as it has been primered red? Please take a look at the pictures. It still retains its original European spec bumpers. The targa top is in nice shape, but the back plastic window was weathered and needs to be replace.

Engine/Transmission: This car does start and drive. It makes nice power and shifts through the gears smoothly. It is a 4speed manual transmission. I never took it on a long drive, but it sounds great with its factory dual exhaust. It has a new Catalytic converter installed. I am not sure if this car will pass smog in California. The ignition switch a couple tries to engage the starter motor.
Interior: This car still has its European gauges and Alpina shift knob. The seats are rather worn and incorrect for this car. The driver side door panel is off as a new window regulator was put in. It has not been put back on, but is included in the trunk with all of the hardware.
Overall: This is a great project. The car is a running driving early 323i that can be restored as it is driven. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks, Andrew and..... continued Happy Trails to you!  ;)
