Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Norbert S.'s TC1 Baur #879!

This is the story of Norbert's Baur, told in his own words, in English and the original German.  Used with permission from Norbert.

Thank you, Norbert, for allowing us to share this wonderful story!

Translation is by Google Translate.... so it is not perfect!  But it is still a great story!

Welcome to Baurspotting, Norbert!

Here is the story for my Baur:
"Our Baur"
Sometime mid-1979, I received a call from my brother. The working time at the company. BMW Arnold. He knew I was looking for a convertible. However, it should not be a BMW. At this time, I was a die-Alfa-driver and fan., The Alfa Spider, to have time still nice plump and often very inexpensive, so from the movie "The Graduate" was the object of my desire. My brother told me about this Baur TC1 Cabriolet. Admittedly, I initially had problems with this slightly edgy BMW. Visually and technically I then imagined something quite different. But after the first test drive with this velvety 6 cyl engine I knew that was my car. The price was incidentally also adapted to my needs and so I had no more problems. A few days later my old Alfa GTV (Bertone Coupe) was sold and the BMW 320 Baur TC stood in my garage.
By the way, now I must say, there was never a reason why I should have to regret that decision.
The technical data I do not want to come wide again here, they should be familiar to anyone here. Only so much. the car in the first half of the 79th was built, it is one of the popular 320/6 models.
Baur Hardcore fans will now ask if the car is because 100% original. No, not quite. Some details of the car were not fully worked out to purchase 100%. So over the years the chromium levels were exchanged for the favorable underlying plastic mirror (my wife drives all so happy with it, ähäm). Under the support of the chrome mirror also collected unfortunately always water. In addition, the rubber lip was traded to the side windows against which the new model. That was it but almost. The first battery and the original exhaust I had to change after about 12 years. The battery was simply become weak and the hitherto flawless exhaust I switched foolishly against such a sport exhaust with Italian names.
Rust so far only on the tow hooks and the trunk floor a topic. The tow hook has been replaced after about 15 years mainly summer operation against a new one. Since then I clean my trunk annually (all oiled nice). Of course there were always times quirks sometimes larger scratches, but these were repaired professionally. That immediate repair or paint the affected parts. As I said I have the car very low mileage in the winter. The driving characteristics in winter are just too bad. It really is a convertible and therefore a summer vehicle.
About 10 years ago I started my brother and I (boredom!) With the systematic dismantling of the car. The typical rust on the E21 were well known to us. Apart from the typical rust spot in the boot floor (filler), we found nothing that would justify a comprehensive restoration. So we built everything back together, welded previously said hole in the trunk. We both agreed. The car should as far as possible remain in the original condition. Notable in this regard. Buyer Commend me to my brother a cavity protection. Apparently this has proven.
Of course there after 30 years, a few minor details that are not quite as nice as missing, for example, the left panel of the console seat of the driver's seat. > Maybe someone as a Plasikteil lying around (please contact with me:-) In June 2009, I will finally get me the coveted "H-plate".
Ah yes, the E21 has an Alpina suspension. Alpina wheels were way too expensive to me at that time and so were BBS - Alloy wheels fitted, the car are also super good. But if someone would like to give a few good Alpinas - I take them gladly. The car has but also with the BBS rims a great road holding.
We (my wife and I) hope that we can experience with our young-Baur a few good years and tours. That we do not get sick. The Baur has besides the above-mentioned small teething yes never lacked anything, so why should he not also the next 30 years .........
And he runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs ..........
To tell if there were, of course, much much more, but I will bore you no further.
Have fun with the pictures - if needed you more of it.
Greetings Norbert

Hier die story für meinen Baur:
"Unser Baur"
Erwähnenswert in diesem Zusammenhang.
Gruss Norbert

Happy Hallowe'en From Baurspotting!

Happy Hallowe'en from Baurspotting!

And..... A Hallowe'en Baur!

I spotted these on ebay a few weeks ago.  I should have bought them!

Full Disclosure:  OK, fellas, I confess.  I bought this set last year on 11/1/2013 from Amazon.  I mean, really.... how could I NOT buy it??

Baurspotting's Global Reach Revisited: Now in 165 countries!

This is a blog post that first appeared on February 28, 2013.  We like to periodically take a look at it, and share our findings.  As of this date, Baurspotting has been read in 127  128 142 149 155 158 159 160 161 162 163 164 165  166 countries around the globe---- that we know of!  These are countries that I have personally seen listed on the site, and it does not include any country that may have appeared when I was asleep, for example.  So there could be more countries to add to the list!

Thank you for your support!
We hope to continue to earn your interest!

BWR PWR!

:)

February 28, 2013.    I started checking on Baurspotting's readership a few weeks ago to see in which countries our readers reside.  I had done this about a year ago, and  I had compiled a list of over 110 countries that had visited the site.  Unfortunately I  was working with a new-to-me iPad at the time and I accidentally deleted that post.  I still don't know exactly what I did wrong but I was unable to retrieve it!  I was bummed out!

So, I decided to try it again.  Since I haven't been able to get any kind of a list from blogspot, I have to do it myself in an informal way, in a 'catch as catch' can sort of fashion.  This is not a systematic or scientific way of doing this whatsoever, but it is the best I can manage at this point.  The way it works is that I have to check at a given moment to see what countries are currently represented at that moment.   Blogspot will tell me the top 10 countries that are on the site at that time.  That is all well and good, except that if there are more than 10 countries on the site, say 15, I cannot see who the last 5 are.  And since they are listed by number of visitors, the ones left off the list would be those with just one or a few visitors.  And since I can't check 24/7, there may be many visitors to the site that remain unknown to me, because they come online when I am sleeping.  Sometimes I get lucky, however.  The other day, for example, I checked and found visitors from Andorra, Suriname and the Faroe Islands!  So I get a free geography lesson from time to time!  :)   It is an imperfect system, but it will suffice for now to give us an idea of how much interest there is in Baurs around the world.

And by the way.... NO one is more amazed by the extent of the interest in Baurspotting than I!  I started this blog at the suggestion of my son, Brian, because of my interest in Baurs.  I didn't even know what a blog WAS at the time!  Baurspotting has grown much more than I ever expected, and it continues to be a fun ride.... and a Labor of Love!  Thank you all for your support and continuing interest, and we promise to work hard to continue to earn your support.

And we wish to extend a hearty and warm welcome to our Baurspotting World to ALL!

We have much more still to come so please.... STAY TUNED!

The following is a list of the countries and locales that I have personally spotted on Baurspotting over the past 3+ years.  I am sure I have missed others, as noted above, but I will add more as I spot them.

Oktoberfest 2015: EAST COAST! 46th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest

46th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest will be in New Jersey in 2015!  The announcement (below) was posted to my email today from BMW CCA.

The jagged peaks and brilliant desert vistas of Colorado made a stunning backdrop for 2014’s Oktoberfest show, but on the horizon, the latest chapter of the show’s story has been unveiled—the 46th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest Presented by Michelin. Hosted by the New Jersey Chapter and held from the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club venue, next year’s Oktoberfest trades the high-altitude adventure of Colorado’s Beaver Creek resort for the oceanside experience—and trackside thrill—of Absecon, New Jersey and New Jersey Motorsport Park.
Waving on Track

The 46th Annual Oktoberfest will run from Monday, September 21 through Saturday, September 26, 2015, and will feature many of the events that longtime attendees have become familiar with at previous shows, including the renowned Pirelli Concours and the BMW CCA Foundation-sponsored golf tournament, both held this year on the grounds of the host resort. Other events like the Pirelli Throwback Thursday dinner and the gymkhana precision driving course will return too, each with new themes related to the event’s new location. Oktoberfest’s signature rallies and street driving events return as well, along with the Bridgestone Autocross, local area tours and activities in nearby Cape May, tech talks, dinners, and social events—and so does the German biergarten, which has proven to be a member favorite in all its forms.
Stockton Seaview
Track drivers will appreciate access to the high-performance driving world with ample time at the modern and challenging New Jersey Motorsport Park circuits. Oktoberfest will be taking advantage of both tracks offered by NJMP, the first being the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway—a popular and challenging circuit with a dozen corners, a half-mile straightaway, and 40 acres of paddock space.
The second course, NJMP’s northern Lightning Raceway circuit, is a fast, 1.9-mile course with 10 exciting corners and numerous elevation changes, as well as a 20-acre paddock. Oktoberfest attendees will be able to take full advantage of NJMP’s facilities with four days of High Performance Driver Education clinics and Club Racing, with both circuits reserved by the BMW CCA for the event.
Car Show

The 46th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest Presented by Michelin offers the same exciting automotive experience as previous Oktoberfests enhanced by the dining, shopping, and attractions offered in the local area. Whether for the turn-of-the-century host hotel, the car shows and driving tours, the meals and social events with fellow members of the BMW enthusiast community, the numerous specialized vendor booths of our sponsors, the four days of intense, track-focused, high-performance driving, or any other surprises that have yet to be announced, 2015’s Oktoberfest looks to be a week of excitement and fun for any BMW enthusiast.
Oktoberfest registration and the host hotel room block will open in early 2015.
