1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Baur Alpinas, or Baur Alpina Tributes, From France?

UPDATE from Baur Guru Jeroen Janssen 1/24/2014.  Thank you Jeroen!

This TC1 is about as near as you can get to an Alpina Baur. It started it's life as a 316 and was made into a B6 2.8, with all the parts from a crashed Alpina:

I found some pics of a couple of what appeared to be Baur Alpinas on French forum tonight, and this led me to this:

I also found these images on that site:

These pics below appeared on the French forum:

We have seen many discussions of whether there were any Baurs converted by Alpina.   The general consensus is no, there were never any Baurs converted by Alpina itself.  However, some Baurs WERE converted by Garage du Bac in France under a license from Alpina.  We can clearly see some Garage du Bac windshield stickers on some of the Baurs above.  So, are they genuine Alpinas, or are they what we would consider Alpina Tributes?

Again, the general consensus is that they are Alpina Tributes.

They are still pretty rare and pretty cool cars!

  1. Hi Tom, the article about the TC2 explains a lot; everything was made into being an Alpina except the engine...
The car itself is B41067-13, a 323i in Lapisblau (sounds familiar, doesn't it ;-)).
