1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

E21 Baur in Texas For Sale!

Thanks to our friend bcalis in E21 bimmerforums for the link to this Baur in Texas!

This car is amazingly similar to my friend Afonso C.'s Baur #000048 in Connecticut.  He also has a 1978 320/6.  I am curious to learn the Baur number of this Baur!

Grandfather to one of the most successful sports car models, the E21 paved the way for the modern BMW "Series" of today. BMW E21 is the body designation for the first BMW 3 Series compact executive car, produced from 1975 to 1983. This series was the immediate successor to the BMW 2002 and was superseded by the BMW E30. A cabriolet conversion was offered by Karosserie Baur GmbH in 1978, based on regular E21 models. The cabriolet conversion was composed of a targa roof and an independent rear soft-top - examples were sold via the BMW dealership network.

With few examples of the Baur Top Cabriolet produced for the European market, it is unknown how many units actually made it to the U.S. - coupled with a low survival rate of preserved cars, open-air 320s have become quite the rare find. Offered here is a very original and correct example finished in silver paintwork over black corduroy and vinyl cabin appointments.

Recently acquired from a very well-known and much respected BMW collection. The 320's preservation comes as a result of careful former stewardship. The exterior paint appears to have been reapplied years ago, all upholstery and weather equipment have held up very well and present nicely. The car's exterior trim, wheels, European bumpers, side glass and lenses are original as is the vast majority of this Baur, including the solid floor pans and factory pinch welds. Both bays are very tidy, while the front stores an original spare, jack and tools.

Mechanically, the BMW is quite sound and responsive, shifting is direct - all equipment is correct, without performance modifications. Comparable examples of these particular cars are few and far between - Ideal for all around enjoyment, or just a great piece for the avid Bavarian collector as the E20 represents the essence of the modern BMW marque.
