RESTORATION PROJECT: BMW 2002 Baur Convertable
"This is a rare opportunity to acquire a real piece of BMW history. There were 861,940 “02’s” built of which 2517 were convertibles. To make this car even more scarce – only 354 of these cars were the right hand drive (RHD) version.
This car has undergone a good deal of first stage renovation. There is a new front valance and it did have new paint some years ago. There appears to be a little rust but nothing more than surface coverage in places.
All the parts are present to put it back together including a number of surplus parts that have come from a donor car. The trim is nearly all complete. It also looks as if the bottom end of the engine has also received a re-build at some point in past years.
The car was manufactured on 7th February 1973 and was then exported to BMW London Ltd on the 2nd March 1973. The car is still in its original colour (possibly the best colour) of Polaris Silver (paint code 60).
The car also has upgraded alloy wheels from original. The spare parts include a set of twin headlights for conversion. This is a straight original car and a great base to create a well restored rare appreciating classic car.
