EXTERIOR
The stunning classic lines of the BMW E21 were a perfect base for Karosserie Baur GmbH of Stuttgart to offer a cabriolet conversion. A total of 4,595 Baur E21's were produced and sold through the BMW Main Dealer network. This beautiful example is finished in BMW Henna Red (Hennarot -- code 052) with a deep glossy shine to the paintwork. All panels are original, straight and free from damage and the car is structurally excellent. The extensive original chrome brightwork has a glorious mirror finish with only a faint discolouration to the rear nearside corner and front lower sections. The chrome wheel arch extensions hide no corrosion. Factory plates and stickers in the remarkably clean engine bay confirm the true correct Karosserie Baur Stuttgart identity, and a supply dealer sticker inside the boot lid remains. The targa roof and and rear soft-top are fully water tight and remain in excellent order, aside from a few miniscule scuffs. The rear soft top operates perfectly and the targa roof storage brackets allow the panel to be neatly stored whilst retaining luggage space. The smartly designed fitted tonneau is in perfect condition. Wonderfully original and a real crowd pleaser!
INTERIOR
The semi-circle arrangement driver orientated cockpit in this BMW E21 320 offers a delightful throwback to 1980's interior design, wonderfully reminiscent! All the seating is clean and wear free and offers remarkable comfort. The matching door cards and black carpeting areas are pristine. The dashboard is completely free from cracks and all incorporated switches and functions are intact and operate as they should. The process of targa top removal and rear soft top lowering is quick and effortless. A pristine and functional interior, brilliant!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The legendary and time proven BMW six cylinder inline engine with alloy cross-flow cylinder head and 4 A 1 twin-choke carburettor has deservedly gained huge renown in automotive circles. The power delivery is superbly effortless and smooth, and the familiar engine note is a delight. Displacing 1990cc, the power output of 122bhp and 160Nm of torque propels to car through 0-62 in just 10.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 112mph. The optional five speed economy gearbox is an upgrade from the standard four speed transmission and offers a more relaxed cruising manner.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory upgrade light alloy BMW cross-spoke wheels are simply pristine with absolutely no parking scuffs whatsoever. These stunning classic BMW wheels are shod in 185/60 R13 tyres with masses of tread remaining. The dual twin-circuit braking offers advancements such as automatic brake pad wear compensation. The brakes feel completely assured in all manner of driving.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 1st May 1981 by BMW Main Dealers Ashdown Garage of Sussex, the first owner being Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. A huge collection of stamps in the original BMW Service Booklet and previous MOT certificates leave in no doubt the genuine low mileage of 105,775 miles. A documented cambelt change was carried out at 95,516 miles. The history file further consists of maintenance receipts and invoices, and the original A5 owner's wallet houses the dealership supplied handbooks, guides and even a staff member business card! An original new car sales brochure completes the history file.
A very rare survivor today, this original Baur example is a must have for any individual wanting a fun and beautifully preserved classic BMW.
