Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Hurricane Sandy Meets Baurspotting

You may be aware that the East Coast of the US just got hit by a major hurricane of immense proportions earlier this week (Monday).  I won't bore you with the details, but.... suffice it to say that our town got slammed, and Baurspotting just got power back a few minutes ago.... we have been without power or water since Monday.

Baurspotting originates from East Lyme, Ct.  The clipping above is from USA Today.  As you can see, East Lyme took a hard hit from the storm, with about 97% of the town without power.  Stonington and Stonington Borough are only a few miles from us, btw.  We are slowly recovering, and tonight we got power back at out house!  Hallelujah!

Anyway, I apologize for the fact that we have been a little preoccupied this week with, you know, other things like.....  preserving life and limb, foraging for food, water and batteries, etc... and haven't had a lot of time to devote to Baurspotting.

But ....  as of about 8:30pm tonight.... WE ARE BACK, BABY!    .... to quote Seinfeld's George Costanza.

We took a walk Tuesday, and my wife took some pics of the neighborhood nearby along the shore.  We are about two blocks away and were spared this destruction.
There should be grass surrounding what is left of this garage/boat shed.    The sand and rocks are about two feet deep here.

This was formerly a beautiful footpath along a bluff overlooking the shore.  Total washout.

Half the porch is just washed away.

Yard covered in debris, shingles just gone, several feet of water inside that room.

The Elms Inn located across the street from the beach.  Power pole and live transformer on the ground in distance, cordoned off.  Police threatening to arrest anyone crossing the yellow tape lines just out of sight to the right. (See next pic.)

This was the main road at Crescent Beach, completely washed out.  Yellow police tape can be seen, keeping gawkers out.  Location is the same as the previous picture of the Elms Inn, facing to the right.  The Elms Inn is immediately to our left here.

These pics are only a small sampling of the destruction from Hurricane Sandy in East Lyme, CT.  Our home was fortunately spared any of the above damage, but lots of  friends and neighbors have been significantly impacted.  We were merely inconvenienced by this storm....our thoughts and prayers go out to those folks, and they are many, who have really suffered serious losses this week.  Hopefully, we are well on our way to a full recovery.

  2. Thanks, Ed! Much appreciated. We took a hard hit, but we are pretty much back to normal. We feel for the folks in downstate CT, NY and NJ who continue to suffer from the effects of this storm. It is going to be a long time before their lives are back to anything near normal.
