Correction: 3 Baurs at the Gooding's auction at Amelia Island, not 4. Mea culpa. :)
You may have already seen our earlier post today about the Gooding's auction of rare BMWs at Amelia Island on March 7, 2014.

Well, Baurspotting has done some further checking into the auction and we are pleased to announce that there will be THREE Baurs auctioned as part of that collection.
Yes, that is THREE as in 3.... including one that you may not know is a Baur!
Baurspotting has the scoop, folks!
Here they are!
You will recognize this one as a BMW Voll Cabriolet by Baur. Extremely rare Baur.
You will also recognize this as one of the famous BMW M1s by Baur:
Ok, so far so good. Now here is the one that you may not know about:
The 700 LS Coupe by Baur. We knew that Baur did the 700 Cabrios..... but we only recently discovered that Baur ALSO did the shell of the1964-65 700LS Coupe!
Here is a link to the Baur Production Chronicle from 1910 through 1996.
http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/2012/06/baur-history-chronological-chart.html
Scroll through until you see 1964-65:
1964 - 1965 | Shell of the BMW 700 LS Coupe |
And here is the one that we thought would make 4th Baur in the auction:
We thought that this was another 1965 700LS Coupe. We did not know any more about it, although it looks like it may have been set up to race. We have since done some further checking on this car and we find that our initial assumption was not correct. This is actually a 1960 700 Coupe, not a 1965 LS. Our apologies for the error, committed in the excitement of the moment of discovery earlier this afternoon. According to the production chronicle, Baur did the 700 LS coupe shell (above), and the 1961-63 bodyshells of the BMW 700 Convertible.
1961 - 1963 | Production of bodyshells of the BMW 700 Convertible |
So the 1960 700 Coupe pictured above predates Baur involvement in the production of the 700 Series. My apologies for the mistake.
Anyone going to Amelia Island for the Gooding's auction?
Stay tuned!
