TC1 Baur in California on Hemmings: Caveat Emptor and Possible Small Baur World?

Thanks to our friend and fellow Baur owner, Jonathan Selig, for spotting this listing in Hemmings.  Jonathan notes that it is NOT advertised as a Baur!  That is worth noting.... see our comments below!  We think we may know this Baur* from six years ago, so this may be another "Small Baur World" find!

We do have some issues with this listing:  it states that it is a 320i.  That is an error, at the very least.  Check the pics..... it has an M20 engine with twin exhausts.  That means it is a 323i.  Why wouldn't the seller know that???  Because they didn't check, or because they have no clue.  Either way, that is a good reason for us to make this:  Caveat Emptor!  What else have they not checked on this car? Assume that they have not done any due diligence, if they missed anything as obvious as .... the wrong engine!  Especially since the M20 would be a positive selling point vs the 320i M10.  Plus, as Jonathan noted in his message to us.... there is no mention that this is a Baur!  Why not?  My answer would be that this seller either doesn't know or doesn't care what he has.  That means two things to potential buyers:  1) Again, Caveat Emptor;  and 2) someone may be able to get a good deal on this, since it appears the seller may be clueless. His pricing however tells me that he thinks he has something..... $5950 is high price for a plain Jane 320i project.  Whoa.  I can't forget to mention that it is advertised as a plain Jane project 320i ..... WITH A SALVAGE TITLE, for which he gives no explanation whatsoever!  So he thinks he has 'something special', but it appears has no clue what that 'something special' really is! Lots of questions about this..... but... someone may get a steal!  ;)

*We may have seen this Baur before1  It is a 323i, green, and it has no Baur badge on the B pillar.  Can this be the same Baur? Hard to say for sure but...... Stay tuned!  ;)

JT Burkard Spots a Baur in Paris! Who Owns it? ;)

Can you spot the Baur in distance? This is indeed what we call Baurspotting! ;) Posted by JT Burkard in the E21 Legion Facebook page today, with this comment: 

"My sister is in Paris for business and I asked her to pick up some Tour de France souvenirs (I’m a huge cycling fan). She took a picture of this bike team (not on the TdF) riding through the street of Paris. After I zoomed in, I noticed an e21 Bauer!!! Everything about this picture is awesome."

Another Canadian TC1 Baur For Sale: $12,000 Canadian..... But... hmmm.

1982 BMW Baur 320..... but we have questions! 

Thanks again to Neill Taniguchi, who sent me a SECOND Canadian TC1 Baur today!  This one is for sale in British Columbia, the opposite end of the country from the Baur he sent earlier today that was located in New Brunswick! 

 I am a little curious about one thing on this car, though.  The badge, and the listing ad, refer to this car as a "320".  For the E21, that usually means the '320/6', which a carbureted M20 6 cylinder.  This car has a fuel-injected engine, however, which the seller states is 'rebuilt'.  Was the 320 (which means a 2.0L M20) available in 1982 in a fuel injected version?  I know they did make those for the E30 a year or two later, but I do not recall seeing an E21 with the fuel injected 2.0L engine.  Maybe they were available in the Canadian market? I don't know.  I welcome any information on the subject!

If that is NOT a 2.0L fuel injected M20, then it appears the seller had made a mistake in the listing.  It does look more like a 325i, including the exhaust.   It is definitely different from my 323i, which has dual exhaust, and which is ALSO a 1982 model.  If that is a 325i engine, then the engine has been REPLACED, because the 2.5L M20 was not available for the 1982 E21.  Is the seller aware of this discrepancy?  It might be worth checking the VIN on this to get it sorted.  We shall endeavor to get this figured out, so stay tuned! 

The asking price of $12,000 Canadian does seem a little optimistic, given the body work needed, and the questions about the originality of the engine.

Small Baur World Deja Vu! Canadian TC1 316 Baur for Sale! $13,500

Thanks to Neill Taniguchi for the heads up on this Baur for sale in New Brunswick, Canada!  it looked familiar to me, especially when I saw the Baur plate number:  996.  So I did a quick check of my files, and.... sure enough:  Small Baur World Strikes again!  ;)  We have previously posted TWICE  about this Baur (with more pics!) when it was for sale back in 2011, and again in 2013.  While I do not know for sure if it sold at that time, I believe that this is now a different owner than the owner back in 2011, when we first learned of it.  Both older posts are linked below*.
