Today's update. After leaving the beautiful Altai region in Southern Siberia at 8:04 this morning we made our way north. In the morning we had 3 time trials. To get to the trials we had to drive for about an hour through the country side which was a reminder of the better roads in Mongolia. With the broken shocks of last week still fresh in mind, we decided to take it easy on the first trial. The second and the third one were on sand roads through the birch forest, nice and smooth so no suspension worries. A few trees were in my opinion planted too close to the trail but we managed to avoid them. The afternoon drive took us to Novosibirsk, capital of Siberia, not a pretty city at all from what we've seen driving through town to the Congress Hotel; very 50's/60's Soviet style with many run down apartment buildings to house all the comrades. Tomorrow is a rest day which means doing the laundry and taking the car to a garage to check out the suspension as the car is sitting a good 3 inches too low on the right rear side, the same side where we had the 2 broken shocks.
Two broken shocks, but... still truckin'! Go Dirk and Alexandra!
