1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

"1971 BMW 2002 Cabriolet
Body by Baur; S/N 2790141; Engine # 2790141;
Red/Black vinyl; Black cloth top; Older restoration, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $62,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $68,200. No Reserve -- Nardi wood rim steering wheel, wheel covers, Falken blackwall tires. -- Good older restoration with good paint, chrome and interior. -- One of a number of BMWs offered at Gooding's Amelia Island auction, and one of the most appealing with its Baur built droptop. The loss of the roof structure may detract from the 'ultimate driving machine', but it will more than make up for any shortcoming in that regard when the weather is good, a consideration which the Gooding bidders must have had in mind when they pursued it to this price"

Great stuff Scott!!  Thank you!

1985 Baur with S50 swap on eBay!

As you loyal readers may be aware, my computer died a couple of weeks ago.  I am now back up and running on a new iMac, and I am gradually learning how to use it.  I love it, btw, but it is a bit of an adjustment from the old PC format that I am familiar with.  So I am trying to do a little 'catch-up' with some information that I have not had the chance to get to since the demise of my old Dell computer.

Thank you for your patience and indulgence!

OK this one came up back in July on ebay, and it looks like it was sold.  Who bought it?  :)

1985 BMW Baur TC2 convertible with S50 M3 engine conversion

You read that right:  S50 M3 conversion!  ;)

Here are the sellers comments:

1985 BMW Baur TC2 convertible with S50 M3 engine conversion
The car is being listed on behalf of a private collector who is scaling down a collection of rare automobiles.  The vehicle is located in Los Angeles California and carries a clean and clear California title. The vehicle was not first sold in the US being a personal import from Germany, hence ebay is not able to access the VIN vehicle history.
An original European specification 318 convertible built by Baur Coachworks of Stuttgart for BMW in 1985. The car has been professionally converted to a full S50 M3 ( E36 ) drivetrain.
Triple black with clean black bodywork and matching mohair top. The body work appears to have been repainted in the original color at some time; it is very presentable but does have minor flaws in the paint and body.  The top is undamaged and shows very little wear, the rear window appears to be new. Exterior details such as the bumpers and trim are naturally European specification. A new set of aftermarket alloy wheels with new tires were recently fitted to further enhance the appearance.  All glass and exterior trim are in good condition, there appear to be no items missing.
The interior is very clean and is finished in factory sports trim. Power windows and door locks, There is an updated Kenwood stereo installed with a new headunit and speakers along with a comprehensive security system.  Short throw shifter and M Sport steering wheel.
The engine and transmission are the M3 S50 and 5 speed ZF. There is also an M3 spec exhaust system fitted. The suspension is uprated with Eibach springs and gas shocks.
Overall the vehicle is cleaner than would be expected for a car of this age, the engine conversion is very well engineered and executed, it drives very well and as you might expect is extremely quick.
Given the extremely low production numbers for the Baur TC and the engine conversion, this car is believed to be unique.
The auction is a seven day NO RESERVE sale, please have funds in place before you bid. Please feel free to ask any questions. Any inspection is welcomed.

On Jul-23-14 at 17:23:19 PDT, seller added the following information:

To address a few questions I have had concerning the vehicle,
The car is for sale locally and can be viewed by appointment, it will be sold to the first reasonable offer.
The car is a genuine Baur convertible made in Germany by Baur specifically for BMW. These cars were sold new through BMW dealerships in Europe. ( Please feel free to research the history of Baur Coachworks )
The owner is willing to work with buyers from outside the USA. delivery to the port of Long Beach for export can be arranged if need be.

It looks like it sold for $7600.  Does anyone know any of the details of the sale?

Stay tuned!

BMW 3-serie 323i Baur TC2 1983, 210 000 km, kr 45 000 NORWAY

Thanks to Stein S. for posting this link to a TC2 Baur for sale in Norway!

Here is what the ad says, translated by Google translate:

Description

After a fantastic summer driving cab in sold this veteran car to free garage space for other cars.
The car is EU approved and has new shocks and lowering springs round tack. There is a little rust nedomkring (wheel arches and channels) but is otherwise very full and nice. This is a vintage that it is very inexpensive to own. (Vegavg £ 400, - plus very cheap insurance) New summer covers on new rims this summer.
It is still the original paint on the car and Baurcabben has fared very well. This is provided as delivered from fabrkk. The car has been imported to Norway in 1985 and has had one owner until 1/1 to 2013. Wikipedia lists E30 323i Baur TC2 to 1660 produced so this will be a collector's item soon. It deserves to be taken care of as little rust welding and paint would do this well.
By orginal equipment include: original fader controls, large computer, electric adjustable mirrors, fornt and rear arrows, trench / fog lights. All technical and mechanical is in very good condition. Something extra Baur specific parts can be included in any agreement on sales. The car has been in daily operation throughout the summer and works very well. Some småskavanker it is of course when the car is over 30 years old. Provided carrying bridges behind which should be soon.

There is info line on www.02classic.no and the car will be compiled under BMW Classik autumn hits in Notodden 5/10 to 2014 and can be viewed as either the (if not sold before then)

I am easiest to reach in the evening but the mail is probably the safest.
Thank you Stein! http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=50969415&editAd=true

1985 320i Baur Ending on Ebay California!

Thanks to Jonathan B. in Facebook for the link to this 1985 320i TC2 Baur in California on ebay.  Starting bid is $11,000.... with 7 hours to go.

Seller states it is a '320i inline 6".  No pics of the engine bay.

Here are the seller's notes:
Car is in great conditio! Runs great and very quick! Interior is tan leather in excellent condition! Exterior is jet black in great condition. Few nicks here and there. nothing serious at all. Car has minor issues: needs glove box latch, only 35 bucks, and driver door handle could be replaced, only 40 bucks. overall in great condition though. These are small minor fixes, and I've already priced the part. Great collector car and very very rare obviously. If you know your BMW's and history of Baur! have fun biding and best of luck to the winner. I hope this collector impresses and I know it's value will continue to grow tremendously in the years to come. This is so rare already, and even some have now been started to be added to car museum's at this point. do your research!

Ok, so we know someone has been reading Baurspotting!  ;)

Three Baurs In The Netherlands This Weekend!

Thanks to our friend and fellow Baur owner, Paul G. of The Netherlands, for posting these pics of three Baurs on a club touring event this weekend!

A white Baur with a yellow Baur parked directly behind it.

The white, the yellow and the..... Inka?  Or is that Colorado?

Very nice, and thanks for posting, Paul G.!

Baur Cabrio Targa Spotted at Gaydon Hall, UK

Thanks to our friend, Ted Kalman of Ontario, Canada for sending me the link to this Baur Cabrio Targa photographed by Paul Steel, and posted in Facebook today.

It is a beauty!

And, if you look carefully you can see a 2002 Cabrio at the right of this pic.  Now, before you jump to any conclusions---- don't make the same mistake that I did earlier today:  is it a Baur Voll Cabrio?  Look carefully at the little vent window... therein lies the clue.  ;)

Here it is again, at the left of this panoramic pic above.

Here is a better pic of this cabrio, in close-up (Pics by Paul Steel.).  Now look again at the point where the vent window meets the windshield frame.  The vent window does not meet the windshield frame at the same angle that a Baur Voll Cabrio meets it.

Now let's compare it to a Baur Voll Cabrio:

Just picking one at random (wink wink).... this pic is from the Hilton Head Concours a few years ago.... owned by Dirk de G.  Notice the angle at the point of intersection of the vent window with the windshield frame: they meet to form a triangle.  The windshield frame of the red cabrio is angled differently, because this was once a coupe.  The yellow Cabrio is a Baur.  The red cabrio above is a Jaymic aftermarket cabrio conversion.

Here is another example of a true Baur Cabrio, and you can again see that the windshield frame is similar to the yellow.

This Baur Voll Cabrio is owned by..... oh my, what a coincidence:  Dirk de G. also!  Beautiful cars, Dirk!
