1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

UPDATE: 1976 BMW 1502 Lumma Convertible Restoration Pics!

UPDATE 1/12/2013:  This Lumma Convertible is now FOR SALE, along with two other of Jerry's BMWs:  the 1974 2002 and the 1972 3.0CS!

See them all here:

I was contacted today by Cindy and Jerry R. in MA, the owners of the red Lumma Convertible conversion that we featured here last month.  You may recall that this car was spotted a couple of years ago in Washington DC in rather sorry shape:  it had been hit in the rear, the paint was faded, and it was sorely in need of a new owner.

Enter Jerry and Cindy!  They purchased the car last June, and Jerry set about bringing it back to life.  To give you an idea of what that entailed, here are some of his comments he sent to my blog last month:
I have just restored my extremely rare 1976 BMW 1502 convertible. It looks like a completely different car from the one I purchased in June. Beautiful! New Granada Red paint, new black convertible top, new grill-left and right side, new center grill, replaced bumpers, door moldings-black and stainless, belt molding, new hood, new trunk, new trunk floor and spare tire well, replaced wheel wells, all seams sealed, all rust removed, new fuse box, new front end, replaced shock towers, rear struts, replaced rear tail lights with excellent used tail lights. Re-wired tail and plate lights. I have a lot of money into it, but am not sure what it is worth. Any ideas? I cannot find a comparable car listed anywhere.

Jerry started a business a couple of years ago buying and selling collectibles.  He indicated to me that he is overstocked, and may be looking to reduce his inventory.  Interestingly enough, in addition to this rare Lumma conversion, he also has a 1974 2002 and a 1972 3.0 CS!

So stay tuned!  All three of these may be soon be on the market!

And without further ado, here are the current pics of Jerry's 1976 Lumma Convertible conversion.

N.B. Baurspotting has been searching for other Lumma examples here in the US, and we have found less than half a dozen.  Rare indeed!

Thank you Jerry and Cindy for sending along these pics, and congrats on this beautiful car!

Here are the two previous posts we have done on this car, showing the sad condition it was in when Jerry originally bought it in June 2012:

  2. My same thought... I would guess the owner had not restored a car before? As rare as that car is, it would have been best to go back to square lights. I would presume value would be greater as well.
