Ron Perry of Vintage Motorsport Group in Duarte, CA messaged me today about his new Baur project. He also posted some pics in Facebook along with his plans for the car.

Ron was recently in the news when Bimmer Magazine featured his restoration of Bobby Rahal's E9 Batmobile:

Unbelievable, what a beautiful car!
Ok, so ........
THAT Ron Perry!
We are very excited to hear that someone of Ron Perry's stature in the BMW vintage community is taking on the restoration of a Baur! Here is part of Ron's message this afternoon:
"Just got the 1979 Baur to my shop. The vin# is WBA29S10006684636. The Baur plate number is A000979-05. It was originally (and still) Chamonix and the paint is just beautiful. I need the "Baur TC" emblems for the B pillar if you know of any."
This info just adds to the excitement because I did some checking on that Baur plate, and that is a NEW FIND! It is not yet listed on either International Baur Registries, and we have no previous info on the car! So congrats to Ron for bringing another Baur in from the cold!
Additionally, and this is simply a personal note, FWIW, I love the E21 in Chamonix (white). I think that white is the sharpest looking color for that model, so I am very excited to see how it turns out in the hands of a Master!
Lastly, anyone out there have any "Baur" emblems for the B pillar?
Ok now for the pics and the preliminary project plan:
"The Baur has arrived at Vintage Motorsport Group! It's a 1979 320 shell. Plans are for an M30B35, 5sp trans, 5 lug conversion with Alpina open lug 16's, Recaro seats in red leather, 3:73 LSD. Trying to get it ready for Bimmerfest 2013 at the Rose Bowl....and of course for a little summer fun down Coast Highway ;-)" Ron Perry
