Thanks to John Barlow for posting this in Faceboook, and to our friend and fellow Baur owner Amir Kadric for the gentle reminder! ;) This is a project, needless to say!
This Baur conversion BMW 1602 Cabriolet VIN 1557962 is one of (650) made in 1969. Total production between 1968-Jun 1971 was only 1682. The body was dipped about 18 months ago with intentions to restore. It was unfortunately put on the back burner since then and has sat in the elements. So the rust is mostly surface rust. As you can see, after the bondo was removed, a lot of patch work was revealed. The cabriolet will need to be dipped again prior to any restoration. With the value of these cars increasing every day and not very many of them in circulation, they are still very sought after restoration candidates.
This car will be sold with a lot of the hard-to-find "cabriolet-only" pieces. THESE PARTS WILL NOT BE SOLD SEPARATE FROM THE CHASSIS, SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK. Inspections are encouraged. This was a running and driving car prior to being stripped down for paint and bondo removal. Car will be sold AS-IS with no implied warranties whatsoever. Car does have a CLEAN TITLE. The parts included are pictured on Shutterfly site, please see link below. Here is the list:
