1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Robert Anthony's TC2 Baur in New Mexico!

I have been way for a few days visiting with my grandchildren, and I returned to find this email message from Robert Anthony of Albuquerque, New Mexico:

"Hi Tom,
I think we talked a few years back. I was wondering if you could put my Baur TC2 on the map?

It's a 1985 325e conversion
zinnoberrot with a black top - factory mtech 1 body kit
Had Grey cloth houndstooth interior - I swapped it out to black.
Baur Number - 44609
photos attached

The car is now located in Albuquerque, NM (previously in Fort Collins, CO)

It has been in the U.S. since at least 1990 and has been fully federalized.

My targa top handle is broken - I've searched ebay for the last few years sporadically and have yet to find a replacement. The part is NLA from BMW - any suggestions?

Thanks!
Rob"

Well, I must admit that I haven't had the opportunity to update that map in ...... yikes! ..... years!  Baurspotting originally started with a focus on the E21 Baurs, then quickly expanded to include the TC2, TC4, and the 1600/2002 Voll Cabrios and Cabrio Targas!  I just have not been able to keep up to date on that map!  My apologies!

I do hope to get back to that map one of these days, but in the meantime, I am pleased to present Robert Anthony's 1985 325e TC2 Baur!

Furthermore, I am also pleased to announce that, since it is not yet listed on the International Baur Registry*, this qualifies as a NEW FIND!

Congratulations Robert Anthony, and welcome to Baurspotting!

Call Me Up In Dreamland: Visiting Sports Car Restoration February 13 2017

2002 Cabrio Targa by Baur undergoing a complete restoration.

By purely serendipitous, unplanned circumstances, I happened to be in the Plainville CT neighborhood today, so I  decided to make short visit  to see our friends at Sports Car Restoration.  It is always a mind-blowing experience, btw, and today's visit was no exception!

I found Matt McGinn and Nate Williams at the front desk immediately upon entering, busily poring over some paperwork or parts catalogues.  I chatted with them briefly and they invited me to have a look around the shop, which was humming with activity.

The photos that follow tell only part of the story of today's visit:  I knew I was overdue to download my iPhone pics to the iMac, and sure enough, it caught up to me today!  I had to do an impromptu photo dump to make room for the pics you see below.   I could have taken a lot more, if I had more memory.  I will have to plan better for my next visit.  Mea culpa.  ;)

As I put together this post, there is an old Van Morrison tune running around in my head.... and I don't think it is a coincidence!

This is what greeted me on arrival:

The three pics above were cars that are parked out in front of the shop:  two 2002s and 524TD!  A wonderful harbinger of things to come!  ;)

For the most part the pics that follow speak for themselves, needing no commentary from me.  But I have interjected a few, when I couldn't help myself.  ;)

Wow.  A couple of current projects in the main shop area.

700!  My understanding, from a brief chat with Dan McGinn, is that this 700 has been rebuilt from a badly damaged or deteriorated condition.  Coming along nicely, but lots of work!

  Ferrari!

 I love this!

Another 700!

Cabrio Targa by Baur!

700 Cabrio by Baur!   Woo hoo!

Whoa! Here is the Cabrio Targa Restoration!  An incredible project which we have posted about in here a while back!

All sorts of projects going on here!   ;)

Yeah, that's right!  That is a Voll Cabrio by Baur!

2800.  Sorry about the poor pic:  the trunk was open and high in the air, so I took this one kinda blind.

A shot of one of back rooms.

Another section in the back with numerous projects!

E21!

Yes, that is an s14 over at the right of the pic!

It is always a treat to visit Sports Car Restoration, and once again, I want to reconfirm the immense admiration that I have for the work these guys do.  I want to extend my thanks to Matt and Nate ---great to see you guys again!--- for graciously giving me the opportunity to wander about the place, and drink in the scenery!  Made my day!  Keep up the great work, fellas!
