1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Penultimate E21 Baur: Found! #4594!

UPDATE  1:45pm August 15, 2015:  This Baur is one of the 25 US Spec Baurs imported by BMW to North America!   See Jeroen's chart below!*

Thanks to our friend, Nick Crate, for spotting this beautiful Baur at Cars and Coffee in Hunts Valley, MD!  Check out the Baur plate number, folks!  4594:  the second to the last E21 Baur Built!

I cannot enlarge this pic any further without losing resolution, but it appears to be Baur 4594!  (Nick has just confirmed that this is Baur #4594, and sent a better pic!  Thank you, Nick!)

Nick added the following comments about this Baur:
Has around 265k miles. Auto. Blue interior. Relatively clean. Grills are painted white, but it's a nice car. Owner

says he's owned it since 84. It's an 83. I also have the vin:
Great job, Nick!  Kudos!

While we do not have the owner's name, we do have the name of a local independent BMW shop where the car was serviced, also thanks to Nick's careful observation.   So we will pursue that lead to try to directly contact the Baur owner and welcome him to our Baurspotting Community!

Baurspotter of the Week Award:  Nick Crate!

This is the Penultimate E21 Baur built:  the second to the last!  Baur 4593 and Baur 4595 have already been found, and are located in Belgium, owned by Fritz Loos and Andreas Therstappen, respectively.

*UPDATE:  here is Jeroen's list of the 25 US Spec Baurs officially imported to North America by BMW.  We thought 22 of them went to Canada, and only 3 to the US.  However, the last three on the list show "BMW Stuttgart", rather than Canada or the US.  This Baur is the last one on the list "74594".  You can see that the VIN number is a match, also!  Bingo!  We hit the jackpot with this find!  Thanks again, Nick!  Wow!

Holy Mackerel, Andy!  ;)

I want to once again express my gratitude to Nick Crate, and all the other Baurspotters around the world--- too numerous to mention here---- who have sent me info like this over the years!  I could not write Baurspotting without your help, and I deeply appreciate it.

My goal has always been to provide a service to our niche Baur Community, in particular, and the car hobby, in general.  And thanks to your help from all of the far-flung corners of the planet, we find that it really is A Small Baur World!

I only hope that you folks out there enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it!

Stay tuned for more on this Baur!

OK, new pic thanks to Jeremy Martien!
Notice:  there is no badge on the trunk!  Could this be 320i with 'Sport package", often erroneously referred to as the '320iS"?  It does appear to have the front air dam and sport wheels!  We need some interior pics to be sure!  Does it have Recaros and the sport wheel?

Stay tuned!  ;)
