1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Small Baur World---- Again! Julie's Baur 4555 in Australia!

I love stories like this!  I awoke on December 6, 2017 (which happens to be my wife's birthday) to find a message posted at 3:42am from Kim Mills in Australia:

HI Wondering if you've seen this, just posted today. Adelaide, Australia

Here is my response:
No I hadn't seen it yet, Kim! Thanks for the heads up! Today is my wife's birthday, so I wont get to it for a bit, but I appreciate you sending it! Thank you! 😉

This was about 10:23am here in Connecticut, USA.

I continued checking my messages, and I found a SECOND message from Australia, arriving a mere 9 minutes (3:51am) after Kim's message!  It was from the indefatigable Craig Saxon, Baurspotter Extraordinaire:  A mate in Adelaide has just posted a TC1 in the Australian E21 group for sale. I have asked him to post it on the E21 Builds site so you and Jeroen can check the registers
Yes.... it is the very same car!  Two messages from halfway around the world about a Baur that had just been posted.... and arriving here 9 minutes apart!

Amazing!

I then sent the following message to Kim:
This is really too funny, I have to shsre it with you. I had too messages this morning from Australia, arriving 8 minutes apart. The first was yours regarding the Baur above. The second message was from my friend Craig, also letting me know about this very same Baur! You folks are amazing! I love Aussies! 😉 and I have to tell you..... Not many folks are able to beat Craig to the punch like you just did! 😉 Thank you again!

Welcome to my World!   ;)

But that is not all, folks!
My wife and I had a busy day planned for her birthday, so I didn't get to do a write up on this story that day.  I saw later in the day that it had been posted in the Baur Owners Facebook page, so I put it on my 'To Do' list, rather than my "Urgent' list... and got busy with other things, family, holiday preparations, etc.

Until about 10:00pm last night, when this message arrived, out of the blue, accompanied by the two attached photos!
Hi there... My names Julie and I have bought this gorgeous girl... I'm in Adelaide Australia and thought I'd share her...

Whoa!  The same Baur #4555!  And sent to me by the new, proud owner!  Imagine my surprise!  ;)

I thanked her for contacting me, and briefly related the story above!    It is indeed a Small Baur World, folks!

Here are some more pics she sent me, with a note:
"Yeap that's her. She is a 1981 323i auto. Have already put alpina wheels on her and as you can see a good wash... My full name is Julie Pfennig and I'm on a few e21 pages on Facebook and I am grateful how supportive the e21 and Baur community are... Here's some more pics.. And thanks... Last pic is of both my e21's. "

See why I love this stuff?  ;)

Thank you to the alert Kim Mills and the ever-vigilant Craig Saxon for the heads-up on this Baur, and for helping make this such funny story!

Congratulations and Welcome to Baurspotting to Julie Pfennig for completing this story with her new acquisition!  Best wishes, Julie, and please keep us posted!  ;)
