Thanks to our friend and fellow Baur owner Eric B. in LA for spotting this unusual item: a non-Baur E21 convertible, post-production conversion. No info yet on who did the conversion. As you can see, they did leave the front window frames in place, allowing for the removable Targa top, but the rear window frames have been removed. This kind of misses the point of the Baur roof structure design which incorporated structural safety with a built-in roll bar.
Incidentally, although this example is not a Baur, there were four other ads on that page for actual Baurs. I will post them up later, but you can see them now at the link below*.
Here is the text of the ad:
BMW E21 320 1982
101,458 Miles
MOT'd until July 2018 (No advisories on last MOT)
What left the factory as a standard coupe car, this was pristinely converted into a convertible (and registered on the V5) after the option to have a Baur model was no longer available on this specification after 1981. The conversion has been done extremely well, the roof is water tight and folds down easily ready for those Sunday drives. The car runs and drives exactly as a 6 cylinder BMW should, and being fitted with the 5 speed gearbox which was introduced in 1981 which makes it considerably nicer for long distance cruising. As well as being converted to a convertible this particular E21 has been fitted with front fog lights, a rear boot carrier and a radio/cassette player, which although were not standard at the time, make it much more usable today.
The bodywork is lovely, having been refurbished around 8 years ago, but not perfect as there is a few stones chips and imperfections but certainly nothing worth mentioning in particular. Most importantly it is completely rust free and fully under sealed underneath. In the last 3 years the car has had the roof replaced as well as the cambelt (invoice present), as well as various other invoices and MOT records.
These cars are becoming increasing difficult to find in good condition, as unfortunately as most classic BMW's. The E21 ended production for good in 1983 after an 8 year production.
MOT'd until July 2018 (with no advisories on the previous MOT) and only covering approximately 4000 miles in the last 10 years, this stunning example is ready to be loved, driven and enjoyed, just as much as it has been by its previous owners.

Noter the removable Targa roof.
The soft top has vinyl side windows in the rear seat.

Thank you, Eric!
I used to own this car and as far I can make out the conversion was carried out by a company called Cameo conversions. They did other cars as well using the same basic 'kit'.
