1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Small Baur World! Vincent E.'s White TC1 In The Philippines

I got an email from Vincent E in the Philippines tonight, with pics of his Baur #1874! Thank you, Vincent, and welcome to Baurspotting! Baur 1874 is a NEW FIND, since it is not yet listed in either of the International Baur Registries!
Vincent sent me the pics above, and as I went to log them into my files, I noticed that I already had an unidentified white E21 320 Baur in the files. I can't recall where I got the pics from, however.
I thought.... Whoa: How many white E21 320 Baurs can there be in the Philippines! ;)
That's right! You guessed it, and Vincent has just confirmed it! the pics below from my files are the very same white E21 Baur! It's a Small Baur World, folks! ;)
It doesn't stop there, though! As soon as I received Vincent's first message, I immediately thought of my friend, Jimbo Reverente, an E21 stalwart who moved back to the Philippines from California a few years ago. I wanted to make sure that he saw this one. So, I check the E21 Philippines Facebook thread for this car and.... there is a comment from Jimbo to me!
To fully appreciate this you have to understand that all of the above took place within the span of about two minutes----honest to God---- and we are half a world apart! Amazing world! I love this stuff!

New Book From The Hack Mechanic: Guide To European Automotive Electrical Systems!
Look what arrived today! And I was very excited to see that there is a chapter dedicated to "Parasitic Drains"!
I have found a way to stop a parasitic drain, as you can see, but I am thinking that Rob Siegel might be able to suggest a better way. ;)
Full Disclosure: That is a joke, of course. I took the pic the other day as I was stripping out my 1978 E21 320i parts car. I wanted to save the fuse box, and I wanted to leave the original wires attached where they belong. Just in case someone needs that. But what a perfect pic for Rob's book! ;)
Rob is a friend, and a very nice fella to boot. He has written "The Hack Mechanic" column in the BMW Magazine 'ROUNDEL since the early 1980's. He has a very lucid, and humorous, writing style. But if you have ever read any of his columns, you already know that.
This new book also gives me the perfect opportunity to use one of my all-time favorite quotes, from the Rev. Sydney Smith: (3 June 1771 – 22 February 1845) an English wit, writer and Anglican cleric:
"I never read a book before reviewing it. It prejudices a man so."
So, therefore..... I highly recommend the new book!
Seriously, though, it is with great confidence that I say that this book will become an indispensable tome in your automotive library. In the old days, I might have said that it is a book worth stealing but, now that we all grown up, upstanding citizens and stuff, just go ahead and buy it. You won't regret it. ;)

YIKES! Peter van Uum's Ultra-Rare BMW HIS Cabrio Is For Sale!
This is a very special car, indeed! One of only two built by Hezemans. Peter is a friend of ours here in Facebook. We have admired his work and posted it here on numerous occasions. For example, one of his projects is to build his own Baur*! Imagine that! This guy doesn't fool around! ;)
As you can see, the HIS Cabrio bears a strong resemblance to the Baur. Note the rear soft top.
The "B" pillar is also similar to the Baur. But, as you can see in these pics, the "C" pillar is completely different, and so is the 'targa'/sunroof section. Peter tells me that the color is ruby red 018. And in case you were wondering where the targa roof is stored when removed.... it goes in the trunk, like the Baurs! Thank you, Peter! ;)
