Two E30 Baurs in Guatemala!

UPDATE 4/23/2015 9pm:  new pics from OR Marroquin!*  See below!  ;)

My apologies to my friend, OR Marroquin of Guatemala, who has sent me these pics of his TC2 Baur, and I haven't gotten them posted here until now.  Mea culpa.  Life is hectic, please forgive me!  ;)

OR Marroquin bought this as a not-running project: it needs engine work (bad rod bearings) and an interior, if I understand him correctly. Baurspotting applauds you for taking on this project, and hopefully saving this rare example, BTW, OR thinks that this is one of only 2 TC2 Baurs in Guatemala*! And he has sent us a pic of the OTHER one! I love this stuff! (See below!) Thank you, OR Marroquin!

I ran a couple of VIN decoders on this Baur. We may need some help from our Baur experts: it lists this car having an 'electric sunroof"....no mention of the code that usually appears in cars designated for Baur conversion from the factory. Any thought on this: Jeroen, Uwe, Ed Poole? :)

The owner, OR Marroquin has offered these comments:

"Its funny cuz this ones seems an euro but someone imported to usa and due to regulations they put the bumpers out they reinforced the doors, put miles on the gauges, changed headlights, and they installed those ugly lights on the sides."

I think OR is correct on this. The VIN does make it a Euro model, and it looks like it was imported to Texas by the 'Belgian American Investments and Trade, Co." as shown on the labels (above and below). It appears that was "Federalized' in Texas, hence the bumpers and side lights.

Baur #42529

Thank you, OR Marroquin, for sending me these pics and the info.  We look forward to hearing more as your project moves forward!  Good luck!   We love it!

Thank you also for sending this additional of another Guatemalan Baur!

We hope to learn more about this one also!

Thank you again, OR Marroquin, and stay tuned!  We hope to hear from our Baur expert friends around the globe to answer some of the questions you have about the origin/history of your Baur!  :)

*  UPDATE new pics tonight!  ;)  OR Marroquin has done a little cleanup, and it looks like he had a helper1  Great job!  ;)

Thank you, OR Marroquin!  This Baur cleans up nice!  Kudos!  ;)

  1. Color is Alpinweiss ! Certainly Not.

    Not the BAUR option !

Definitely not the good VIN !

  2. We believe it has been repainted Bronzit Beige. It may be a Baur that was converted either by the dealer, or by the owner AFTER it was sold..... instead of a Baur that was built before it went to the dealer.
