1984 BMW 318i Baur TC2 e30 - $7,000; Burbank CA Craigslist

1984 BMW 318i Baur TC2 e30 - $7,000; Burbank CA Craigslist
Baur #40428.
Seller's comments:
"Up for sale is my 1984 BMW 318i Baur TC2. Very rare car. Interior is very clean besides the cracked dash. Engine runs well, although very underpowered being 100hp. AC works great, recently replaced compressor and converted to R134a.
Paint needs some love. Car was vandalized with paint stripper during previous ownership. Clean title in hand with no accident history. Rare wheels, and a Zender front spoiler. Not too many Baur e30s made, especially in America. This car is for the e30 enthusiast. This is not your regular 318i e30, so don’t try lowballing me. Asking $7000. Smog is good for another month, and tags are paid until 2021. No trades accepted."

Chrysler LeBaron Convertible: First American Convertible To Appear After the 'Ban the Convertible' Crisis!

"In early 1982, it was released in a convertible version, bringing to the market the first factory-built open-topped domestic vehicle since the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_LeBaron

Convertible Woodie: 1983 Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country

Remember the movie Planes, Trains & Automobiles? One of these cars was in it. Also, one was part of a George Costanza running gag on Seinfeld. The 1980s Chrysler LeBaron was a K-car derivative, and not only did they make a “Woodie” station wagon, but Lee Iacocca’s boys also came up with a Woodie convertible. This 1983 LeBaron is one of them, saw only 1,520 copies made that year, and has the upscale Mark Cross trim package. Located in Poquoson, Virginia, this car is available here on craigslist for $8,800 or best serious offer. Kudos to our guy Ikey Heyman for sending this tip our way!

The FWD K-Car is credited with being the first automobile that saved Chrysler Corp. in the 1980s (the other was the minivan). While it’s not as fondly remembered as Lee’s first sales bonanza (the Ford Mustang), it resulted in 3.5 million reproductions between 1981-89. They came in several varieties and body styles and would even be used in the taxicab trade. Dodge had the Aries, Plymouth had the Reliant and Chrysler had the LeBaron, the fanciest of the species. In 1983, Chrysler built 77,000 LeBaron’s as coupes, sedans, station wagons and convertibles. Of these, 11,000 were Town & Country (Woodie) wagons and just 1,500 were Town & Country convertibles (also Woodie), so the seller’s car falls into limited production territory. Thanks, Chrysler K Car, for the K-Car history lesson.

This 1983 LeBaron is a two-owner car that is said to have traveled just 23,500 miles in its 37 years.  Until 2014, it was a Texas car, then it went to South Carolina where it acquired the South Carolina license plates it currently wears and is now for sale in Virginia. The body looks straight and solid with no signs of rust, and the fake woodgrain siding looks up to par. That’s a key statement because rehabbing or replacing that material can’t be easy or inexpensive. The dark brown paint is nice and shiny and matches well with the leather interior colors. The convertible top boot is beautiful, but somehow the color is off compared to the seats, so I’m guessing this is a replacement and not the one that came with the car.

The seller’s car was decked out with the optional “Mark Cross” two-tone leather interior with the leather maker’s logos prominently affixed. It also features unique door panel inserts with those same badges. The car was well equipped from the factory with just about every convenience you can imagine. Everything is power this and that, including the top. The wire wheel covers add an additional touch of class to a car that already has tons of it. It even has a trunk rack just like the one where Del Griffith mounted his shower curtain rings travel case to in the movie with Steve Martin (one of my personal favorites). Best line of the movie? “oh, that’ll buff right out.”

Mechanically, the car has Mitsubishi’s 2.6-liter “Silent Shaft” engine, paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. As a sign of the 1983’s version of the future, the car is equipped with Chrysler’s Electronic Voice Alert System, a computerized voice that warned drivers about various conditions and used phrases like “a door is ajar” or “your engine oil pressure is low”. I wonder if its nickname is Alexa. This clearly is a head-turning kind of car given all the excesses that were built into the styling. You’re not likely to run into another one of these at Cars & Coffee. They don’t turn up for sale that often. Of the small handful currently advertised on the web, none of the Woodies are offered for more than $10,000. So, the seller’s asking price seems to be about right.

BMW 1975 BAUR Targa 2002 - $25,000 (CEDAR PARK) Austin Texas

Thanks to our friend and fellow Baur owner Mike Pugh for the heads up on this Cabrio Targa by Baur for sale on Craigslist in Austin, Texas!

    Seller's Comments:

I have a 1975 square taillight 2002 BAUR Targa for sale. As you probably know it's pretty uncommon, I think they made around 1600 of them. Anyhow, the car belongs to a friend who lives in CA, I have the care here in Austin/Cedar Park. I was going to help my friend restore the car but crap gets in the way so he wants to sell it- and I'd love to find it a home. This car has a 4 speed, and a rebuilt tii engine in it. It has probably 100% of the body parts needed for a complete restoration. It could be driven as is but these things are worth restoring. It has some rust and a few dents, but no crashes, the car is really straight. Anyhow, see the pictures attached please and contact me if you're interested. I've been restoring these 70's BMW's for a while and I know what they go for so please don't send me any low-ball offers or help to sell or any of that nonsense. I can also answer your questions if they're reasonably intelligent. Again, there are lots of new parts and lots of work has been done, but it's been a while.

Small Baur World Redux: 1983 BMW 320i Baur Zender e30 roller - $2500 (lake county)

Thanks to our friend, Jonathan Bush, for sharing the link to this TC2 Baur for sale in Northern California!  I did not recognize this car at first, and neither did Baur Guru Jeroen Janssen!

After contacting the seller, it turns out we DO know this Baur from waaaay back when we first started this blog, maybe around 2011 or so.  I do not think I ever published anything on it, because I do not seem to have anything in my files.  However, I DO remember seeing in Bimmerforums, and I recognized the sellers Bimmerforums nickname:  Ruffian!  So, once again, it is a Case of:  Its a Small Baur World!

Jeroen then chimed in with this info on the car:   "B40328-13, it´s new to me. But might have some pictures with this car already. Was sold new by Hans Sixt GmbH."  And this morning, the seller sent me a photo of the Baur plate:  sure enough, Jeroen had nailed it!  Here is the photo. Thank you, Keith!  And thank you, Jeroen!

    Seller's Comments:

Rare Early German e30 Baur TC roller.

Euro Spec import – 1983 320i e30. (Badged 323i but realoem.com search shows 320i. This is the m20b20 and the block of that engine is in the bay. Was going to fresh bore the block for an overbore stroker.

Super Rare Zender bodykit (missing front valence) – rocker panels, door pods, wheel arches and rear lower valence all complete. See Badging, this was possibly installed and sold originally by Zender Exklusiv-Auto in their first year of existence. http://www.zendergroup.com/en/history/2/

Equally rare Baur TC conversion all complete. Back half folds down, and center section lifts off.

Manual windows, manual steering(rack removed but included), manual transmission, no AC.
Euro no whole shift surround included. Interior is rough, hole behind rear seat was archaic subs/system. OEM sport seat fronts, no rear seats.

Square headlight conversion – unknown maker, but there’s only a couple from that period. One headlight is cracked, one piece Kidney and headlight surround is in good shape.

Euro front(not pictured) and rear chrome bumpers included and in good shape.

If you’re looking then you know…this is a unicorn, but she isn’t pretty. I’ve owned her since 2007, probably out of system on registration as I wasn’t able to complete the original purchase transfer since I wasn’t smogged. I’m the owner of record at DMV though and paid quite a few registration fees once to move it to another location, but I just have the PO’s pink slip.

Time to let it go to someone with time. I’m firm on my asking price. In parts pricing alone, this has value.
