Weekend Edition – Three Magnificently Restored BMW 700s available on eBay

This will be my last post for this Saturday, and what a find. This is an auction for three incredible BMW 700s that have been meticulousness restored. I found this listing after searching for a Renault to post, but the Renault I wanted to list showed up on Bring-A Trailer (and I refuse to cross post with them). But, they didn’t post these three BMWs yet, and here they are…
According to the listing:
This is a rare and unique chance for collectors to acquire a trio of BMW’s 700. This auction is for the 3 cars together; if they don’t sell we will sell it separately immediately after this auction.
We have bought these cars in the last 12 months among another set of 3 BMW 700’s that we are starting restoration. We performed this restorations with my friend Alberto Cordero in Miami, FL he is a mechanic engineer from Argentina, former chief of mechanics of Renault France, and also former chief mechanic of Juan Manuel Fangio on the mission to the 1969 84 hs of Nurburgring with the Argentinean Torino 380 W. He have raced with the BMW 700 coupe back in Argentina in the middle 60’s to the 70’s with the 700 sport coupe, cars that were manufactured in Argentina under the brand of “De Carlo 700” by Metalmecanica in Cordoba, back in 1959 to 1961.
1963 BMW 700 cabriolet, alpine white, original California black plate. One of the 2,592 manufactured worldwide over 189,000 units. This car was on the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum for several years in Georgia, USA. The car was at his original spec, no rust at all, straight body with some parts of the floor pan damaged by hit. As the floor on the cabrio was reinforced by Baur Coachbuilder with a double layer floor, the work to make it straight was very hard to perform. This car was published several times in commercials and Car magazines, see the pictures in the link provided at the end of the listing.
1962 BMW 700 sport coupe, bristol grey, replica of the #38 of Hans Stuck with same details at the one in BMW Museum. One of the 9,130 manufactured worldwide over 189,000 units. This car among with the Limo was at a barn in Wisconsin. The cars had rust issues and we replaced on both cars new front fenders and new front from BMW Germany. The body on the coupe was straight, without any accidents, we sandblast the body and proceed with our in house master sheet metal craftsman to restore the rocket panels, floors, and inner fenders areas. All rust areas were replaced or patched; all body was treated with antirust base paint before color base and 2 hands of clear coat. Bonnet was replaced and all aluminum trims new also from BMW Germany. The body paint in this car looks astonishing. All electrical wiring was restored as per original specs; lamps were replaced with LED at instrument gauges and rear lights. Engine was originally fitted with 2 carburetors, high performance pistons, boosting the power plant to 45 HP, sport gearbox and sport tune up suspension among with 4 original brand new BMW aluminum wheels 5.5 x 13” coming from the BMW 2002 TTI 1967 were fitted in this 700.
We have replaced the pistons for a new ones, same specs as the performance ones, new rings ( 4 per piston) new gaskets, new valves, overhauled aluminum heads, overhauled Dynastart, new engine rubber support, new sport 4 pipes SS competition exhaust. New front headlights with halogen bulbs, new tailgates with backup light as per European specs ( USA model was originally with yellow side markers without backup light). Original wood Nardy 380 mm wood steering wheel was fitted among sport aluminum pedals as the original race car at the museum. We added an original tachometer to match the original car at Munich Museum, and all graphics numbers applied with the exact size and format.
1963 BMW 700 LS De luxe, Dakar yellow. One of the 3,024 manufactured worldwide over 189,000 units. This car was fitted also with the same sport engine, 2 carburetors, 40 HP as special package De Luxe. We have replaced both cylinders and both pistons, original 78 mm , new rings ( 3 per pistons) new valves, overhauled aluminum heads, all new gaskets. We have restored the body, sandblasting was applied to discover all rust in the car. New fenders, engine lid, bonnet and front was installed all metal parts imported from Germany. All brand new parts not used parts. All non-available sheet metal was repaired with same gauge sheet metal to match the original. This car had an extensive body work to bringing it back to life. All brand new upholstery, new weather trims including the original grey thermoplastic inside trim. New original door handles were fitted, new chrome roof trim was installed, all new badges, trims, letters were fitted in this car.
Restored original electrical wiring, overhauled Dynastart, new carbons, condenser and new battery. All new around lamps including new clock was installed. All gauges were overhauled, fitted with re chromed rings. All interior handles were re-plated, all chromed trim replaced or re-plated.
All the three cars were restored from ground up, nut and bolt restoration concourse quality, involving total bare metal body work and new paintwork, the colors are all original BMW colors and the 700 sport coupe replica with same Bristol, BMW paint code 058.
This is a very detailed listing, and the price for this trio currently sits at $70,000! That is a lot of money for what were entry level BMWs, and they may be worth that much, but what do you think? Take a look at the listing here: A Trio of Restored BMW 700s
