Mueller was several times in Stuttgart and experienced the different Baur generations, this chronicle had to be made simple. Only with the help of Markus Freitag ('100 years Baur ') this was possible. This traditional and exciting automotive history was to write it down once, which had to do not only with BMW, but with many other well known names in the industry. 48x32 cm, 300 pages, full color on linen embossed luxury paper, hand signed and limiitert to 100 books.

E21 Baur For Sale in South Africa

Thanks to Uwe H. for this link to a Baur for sale in South Africa.

"E21 323i Baur Stuttgart no: 13 collectors item, cabrio, Burgundy, bucket seats, engine redone a month ago, new centre baring. jvc frontloader, 17" flawless rim. R58000 neg."

It is interesting to note that this is listed as a 1984 BMW 323i.  However, it is clearly an E21!  Uwe did some checking and here is the VIN:  7252879.
As you can see, the production date is December 1980 (and it is right hand drive), so it is clearly an E21.   Apparently this Baur sat for a long time before being sold.  We are also seeking information on when the Baur conversion was done.  This too could cause a delay in getting the car to market.  Plus, it is a right hand drive, and that limits its marketability to the UK, South Africa, etc.

It looks like it was registered in 1984 for the first time.  Hence it is listed as a 1984 model.  This is not the way we do it here in the US, but apparently this is how it is done in South Africa.

The Baur number is 2500, which is also consistent with a production date of December 1980.

Thanks, Uwe!

Baur In Thornton CO Again! Steal This Car!

We have seen this one before.... $1200...make an offer and steal this car!  Thanks to
Roger Alan Auerbach for this post in Facebook tonight!

I have a neat, rare BMW for sale. It's a 323i TC Baur. Before BMW started making 3 series convertibles, you could buy one converted by Baur in Germany then have it imported into the US. As such, it's a grey market car with all the euro goodies that BMW had to offer in 1984. These cars are rare and getting much more difficult to find. This is only the second one I've seen in my life.

I've owned the car for about 3.5 years. Since it was imported it's been a Colorado vehicle. I've got receipts for this car for the past couple decades! I bought the car in fairly poor condition and sadly, I've not done anything to it. I'm tired of it taking up space in my garage and I would like a place to park my truck this winter!

Info about the car:
- 1984 BMW 323i TC Baur (that's a mouthful! The 323 engine was the performance model for 1984 and is very similar to the 325 of that era).
- The top is two pieces. There is a center targa portion like a Honda Del Sol that stores in the trunk, then the back part folds down like a regular convertible. All the framework around the doors remain in tact once the top is folded down.
- Has all the euro goodies that was available at the time!
- Silver with blue interior (yay 80s!)
- 188k miles
- 5spd
- The car is water tight and can be stored outside.
- Clear title! Not salvage.

Things that are bad or that the car needs:
- Currently not running.
- Needs a battery
- Will overheat after a few minutes. I think the thermostat is not opening, but I haven't looked into it.
- Leaks oil from the oil pan. I have a new gasket for it but haven't done anything with it.
- No stereo.
- Cracked dash and windshield.
- Interior isn't in the best shape.
- Misc scratches and dings around the car.

This car will need to be towed away. It can be jumped and driven onto a trailer. All the tires hold air and I've only had to refill them once since I've owned it.

As you can see, this car isn't perfect. I bought it because of how rare it was and had ambitions to restore / mod the car. I haven't touched it in 3.5 years! It's time to face the reality that I probably won't get around to working on this car. I'm looking to sell the car for $1200. I am pretty firm on the price. It's a pretty cool little car that just needs a weekend of love to be a great runner! If you feel the need to email with ridiculous "cash" offers (really? How else were you planning on paying?) please save you and me some grief. I'm just looking to sell the car outright and am not interested in trades or payments. If you're serious about owning a cool piece of BMW history please email me with you questions and / or phone number to schedule a time to see this car. Thanks for looking!

Baur Alpinas, or Baur Alpina Tributes, From France?

UPDATE from Baur Guru Jeroen Janssen 1/24/2014.  Thank you Jeroen!

This TC1 is about as near as you can get to an Alpina Baur. It started it's life as a 316 and was made into a B6 2.8, with all the parts from a crashed Alpina:

I found some pics of a couple of what appeared to be Baur Alpinas on French forum tonight, and this led me to this:

http://www.alpina-archive.com/?page_id=46

I also found these images on that site:

These pics below appeared on the French forum:
http://www.autotitre.com/forum/Baur-j-adore-103978p2.htm

We have seen many discussions of whether there were any Baurs converted by Alpina.   The general consensus is no, there were never any Baurs converted by Alpina itself.  However, some Baurs WERE converted by Garage du Bac in France under a license from Alpina.  We can clearly see some Garage du Bac windshield stickers on some of the Baurs above.  So, are they genuine Alpinas, or are they what we would consider Alpina Tributes?

Again, the general consensus is that they are Alpina Tributes.

They are still pretty rare and pretty cool cars!

Baur TC3.  The one and only!

I stumbled upon the Autotitre site this afternoon, based in France, I believe.   Here are some pics I found in a thread entitled:  Baur j'adore!  (Baur I love it!)   :)

http://www.autotitre.com/forum/Baur-j-adore-103978p2.htm

There were a ton of pics on the site, and I have downloaded them all!  Some of them are already familiar to us;  others we have never seen before.  60+ pics!  You have been warned..... this is a pic-heavy post!
 Enjoy!

Or perhaps I should say..... Bon appetit!  ;)

This Baur is currently for sale on ebay in Puerto Rico.
