1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

This has been in storage in garage the last 43 years. Titled in CT. Is not running. Once in a lifetime chance.

Now THIS is what you call an amazing coincidence:

I still can't quite believe it!    ;)

Who is this Lothar Schuettler fella?

Lothar's current project, according to an article appearing in December 2009:
A 1958 502!!!

What a coincidence!

Baur TC2 Brochure (English)

A little background on this brochure:  it was given to me on July 22, 2012, by my friend and fellow Baur owner, Afonso C., at the BMWCCA Connecticut Valley Chapter Show and Shine held in Manchester, CT. Afonso had found it on the front seat of his Baur a little while earlier, but he had no idea how it got there.  Some anonymous person attending the show that day had apparently put it there.  Afonso gave it to me, knowing that I would try to find some way to make it available to everyone here at Baurspotting.  So I wish to extend my thanks to Afonso, of course, but also to that anonymous, but thoughtful, person who left it in his Baur that day for us all to share.
UPDATE:  We have just learned that the 'anonymous' noted above.... is anonymous no longer!  We owe a debt of gratitude to davey101 of E30  bimmerforums for his thoughtful donation of these brochures ..... depositing them on Afonso's front seat!  Thank you, Dave!

Baurspotter of the Week:  Davey101!!

Here is a bonus brochure:  Colors for the Top on the TC2 Baur!  Also left on the seat of Afonso's car that day.  Thanks again!

I took the liberty of grabbing a few relevant screen captures showing our Baurs at the BMW Vintage of Saratoga on July 14, 2012!

To paraphrase Monty Python:  No One Expects The BMW Baurs!
Here is the venue, a beautiful setting.

ADDENDUM:  Here is a previous post that ... well, it just belongs here:

(I hope you are still playing that Springsteen video!)

Here are the Baurs that were present* on the grounds of the Saratoga Auto Museum on July 14, 2012.

Afonso's Baur #48 320/6 from Enfield, Connecticut.
(Shauer's 77E21 at left, unidentified 323i on the right.)

George K's Baur #635 323i from Saratoga, New York

Greg S's Baur #689 from Catskill, New York

Lawrence C.'s Baur #872 323i (now 325i) from Wappinger's Falls, New York
(Dan [midlifebmw]'s 323i at the right of Lawrence's Baur)

Tim M.'s Baur #1475 318 carbureted automatic from Rockaway Beach, New York
(Lawrence C, and Steve H [shauer from bimmerforums] chatting at left of pic)
Tom S.'s  Baur #4154 1982 323i from Niantic, CT
Ed P's  1985 TC2 (E30) Baur 323i from Concord, New Hampshire

*There was a reliable report of an 8th Baur at the Vintage on Saturday.  I did not see the car or driver, how ever.  It is reported that Fred X. from Binghamton, NY arrived late and apparently parked separately.  We are actively seeking confirmation of this, especially any pictures taken of his Baur.

There was, in fact, another Baur present (nicknamed 'Mini-Me"), but the Judges have disallowed it in the Official Count, for some unknown reason.

;)

N.B. Thanks to THEPOOLEMAN for those pics above, except for the last one.  Credit for that goes to "Hitting Redline".

This was a Great day for the BMW Baur but.... it is only the beginning!  Some day we may look back at that day like this.....

Put on your speakers and.... Turn it up again!  And go back through this post again!
